||Glass blowing was an important industry in early Pittsburgh history. There were many glass facilities on the South Side of Pittsburgh, with a number in the South Hills, also. The glass blowers formed their own teams and often employed young boys to assist them.|
In Allegheny County Memoirs, 1904, Christian Abbott's son, August ABBOTT, mentions that Christopher/Christian ABICHT/ABBOTT was a glass blower at one time. It is possible he worked on one of the teams during the winter off-season from farming. Or, possibly, he worked in a glass plant to earn money to buy his first farm at the age of 27.
