Gallery of Paintings by Austin C. Wooster
Austin C. Wooster was a painter of portraits, landscapes, and still lifes from about 1860 to 1916. He was born on November 24, 1837/38 to Dr. Henry Wooster and Rebecca Thornburg in Chartiers Valley, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He lived in Allegheny County the remainder of his life, except for his service in the Union Army.
In 1861 Wooster enlisted in the 102nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry where he served as Brigade Artist in April 1862. He was wounded in June 1862, and discharged September 1862.
After discharge, Wooster lived in Union Township [later Green Tree], Allegheny County, Pennsylvania where he earned his living as an artist and did occasional work at house painting. Wooster also did work for hire; painting landscapes of houses, farms, and vineyards in neighboring communities. No records have been found regarding Wooster's art training.
